A brief description of the institution’s community garden:
Benjamin Newton Environmental Sustainability Director is current the garden manager for the Third City Community Clinic community garden (Neustro Jarden). Multiple Central Community College faculty and staff have plots in the off campus Grand Island, Nebraska garden.

Extra produce is donated to a free health clinic, where patients can pick up the produce in the waiting room area of the lobby.

As garden manager, Ben is the liaison between gardeners, staff, and Grand Island area community groups, supporters, and volunteers.

Principal Activities
● Check on the garden weekly (on average; could vary per season), take action if necessary. Action could include: notifying Center staff of vandalism issue, contacting the landowners with a water
problem, asking gardeners about their availability to attend fall workshops, etc.
● Maintain up-to-date contact list of gardeners and garden supporters, contact participants regarding important dates and and updates
● Consult with Center staff regarding recruitment of new gardeners and any changes to the garden set-up, expansion, and workshops (includes reaching out to staff as well as being available to be reached out to, on call)
● Serve as liaison for gardeners when needed, in order to convey information between Center staff and gardeners and/or community groups/individuals and gardeners
● Generally being available to assist with the garden project, helping ease communication and keeping the garden on track, healthy, and successful
The Contractor’s duties are to serve as the go-between for Third City Community Clinic community gardeners and Center staff and others, to help by consulting and problem-solving within the garden community, and to help the garden project as needed, in order to strengthen its positive impact in the community.
Working with Center staff, the Contractor will connect with local organizations and individuals in Grand Island to keep the garden project moving forward. The Contractor will not be relied on solely to make these points of contact; the calls and visits would be discussed with staff prior to actions occurring. A
monthly planning call would be arranged to discuss actions to take.
