A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:
The Environmental Sustainability office facilitates a Resiliency Committee in the Grand Island community. This is an ongoing partnership where CCC and multiple city/county departments and local businesses collaborate on multiple committees to develop transportation policy, non-motorized subcommittee to promote walking and biking through increased trail connections, community gardens, and also collaborate on the CCC Earth Month events. CCC has had students from underrepresented groups meet with the diverse committees to provide feedback, and CCC has provided grant funds to improve signage on walking and biking trails. The goal of the committees is to provide all citizens a safe option to walk and bike to locations in town as not everyone has a personal vehicle, and also to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and thus reduce vehicle emissions.

The Nebraska State fair has provided funding for students to create projects that are sustainability focused. The projects are displayed in the Sustainability Pavilion during the duration of the fair. Community engagement was back
in full bloom this fair season. New additions to our space within the Sustainability Pavilion were designed to utilize as many re-used components as possible. Together, we created planters made from a variety of repurposed materials and a light cement mixture. Some of the planters featured reused burlap coffee bags, while others used donated textiles, and plastic refuse.

The Sustainability Leadership Presentation Series (SLPS) is a collaborative live broadcast of highly qualified and credible speakers, presenting on regional topics of sustainability as well as global and local environmental issues. The SLPS stimulates needed discussion and provides examples for action, planning and problem-solving for leadership in environmental sustainability.

Optional Fields
CCC works with Keep Columbus Beautiful, Keep Lexington Beautiful, Conservation Nebraska, Green Fiber, Nebraska Extension as well as other community partners to put on sustainability events like America Recycles Day and Earth Month events. These events focus on outreach to students and the community to bring about a culture of sustainability.
