Small House Contest

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :

Four community partners collaborated to offer the Small House Competition: Central Carolina Community College, Small House Institute, Habitat for Humanity, and the Abundance Foundation. The Small House Competition invited amateur and novice designers to add to the excitement and variety of available small house designs by submitting their own creative plans. The contest was launched in 2013 and was open to individuals, schools, and non-profit organizations, not professional applicants with years of design experience. The primary goal of the contest was to bring visibility and attention to good designs for affordable, energy and resource efficient, aesthetically pleasing small houses. An Architectural Design student from UNCG submitted the winning design.
