(AAS Degree)•The Sustainability Technologies degree focuses on sustainability issues, Alternative Energy and Green Building. Core classes cover the major policy and development issues in sustainability metrics and practices. Students learn how to measure sustainability indicators, skills necessary for improving financial, social and environmental impacts.
•Alternative Energy courses include education on solar energy, wind power, hydroelectric, biofuels, and other sources of renewable energy. Renewable energy modeling, and design and installation skills are part of the program.
•Green Building courses include energy analysis, architectural drawing, building science and green building certification programs. Students also receive hands on training- students construct a small house annually.

Sustainable Agriculture

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (2nd program):
Sustainable Agriculture, AAS
The program takes a unique approach to instruction by using successful farmers as the main instructors. The classes are hands on with field trips to local farms and related businesses and are scheduled to accommodate the working student. The Land Lab has been developed as a research and demonstration facility for sustainable agriculture practices, as well as an outdoor classroom for hands-on instruction in horticulture and other agricultural disciplines.
Students have the opportunity to take courses in a variety of subjects including Medicinal Herbs, Organic Vegetable Production, Sustainable Cut Flower production and Sustainable Poultry Production, as well as Biofuels, alternative energy and sustainable building. The Culinary Arts (AAS) curriculum provides specific training required to prepare students to assume positions as culinary professionals in a variety of food service settings including full service restaurants, hotels, resorts, clubs, catering operations, contract food service, and health facilities with a sustainable and farm to table focus.
A curriculum offering emphasis on practical application, sustainable practices, and professionalism. The course also provides the critical competencies to successfully meet industry demands.

The Green Building certificate is designed to prepare individuals for employment in construction where key emphasis is placed on sustainable building and design, and green building certification programs.
Coursework will include an introduction to sustainability as well as trade specific classes in green building. Graduates should qualify for positions within the construction and green certification industries. Some courses include testing options for industry recognized certificates.
Employment opportunities exist in both the government and private industry sectors where graduates may function as sustainability consultants, green building technicians, or weatherization technicians.

Sustainable Livestock Production

The Sustainable Agriculture curriculum is designed to provide the entrepreneurial and technical skills necessary to manage a profitable, environmentally sound, community based small farm or agricultural business. Coursework includes fundamental sustainable agriculture concepts, study of the soil systems as they relate to pasture fertility and livestock health and marketing practices typical of small-scale, local food systems. Appropriate breed selection, pasture management and direct marketing are emphasized. This certificate is appropriate for individuals interested in integrating sustainable livestock production into their current agricultural system, agriculture educators, and individuals interested in working in the food and fiber industry.
