Does the institution have strategies in place to safely dispose of all hazardous, special (e.g. coal ash), universal, and non-regulated chemical waste and seek to minimize the presence of these materials on campus?:
Yes

A brief description of steps taken to reduce hazardous, special (e.g. coal ash), universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:

All CCCC staff working with hazardous materials receive the Hazard Communication Program handbook. Each Department Head must assure that materials are properly labeled within their work area, ensure MSDS are obtained with any new materials recieved and each employee is trained on any non-routine chemicals that may be used in their work area. . The college employs a full time Hazards Communication Coordinator that works with all campus staff and outside vendors to assure health and safety.

CCCC, as part of our ongoing efforts to conserve energy and lower hazardous waste in the future, has installed new lighting and is in process of removing mercury thermostats and replacing with electronic units.

A brief description of how the institution safely disposes of hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:

All chemical waste is sequestered in a safe area and held for pick up by liscensed contractors. Description: CCCC follows state and federal guidelines for all hazardous materials. Stericycle Incorpated is the contracted provider. They are certified under the blood born pathogen OSHA rule 1910.1030.

Waste from the automotive program is picked up by Noble Oil & Safety Kleen
. The hazardous waste practices are supervised by the Department of Environment Health and Natural Resources of NC.
