A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
A 2009-2010 campus expansion including a regional library and new classroom is served by a 3-5,000 gal/day on-site wastewater treatment and reuse satellite system developed by Integrated Water Strategies. Treatment of the wastewater from the buildings is provided bv a series of vegetated sand filters and constructed wetlands landscaped as a garden for use as a courtyard. The reclaimed water provided by the water recycling garden is supplemented sequentially with rainwater and potable water based on demands created by toilet flush, cooling tower evaporation, irrigation of a green roof and campus landscape. The design strategy utilized by IWS has historically demonstrated numerous environmental, economic and educational benefits.
