The Catawba College Equity, Diversity, Justice & Inclusion Task Force (EDJI) works to strengthen Catawba's commitment to building a welcoming campus community. The Task Force works by facilitating critical conversations and formulating recommendations and practices that advance social justice, such as promoting equity, closing opportunity gaps, and working to realize the concepts of justice, diversity, and inclusion in the community at large.

The Task Force draws upon the College's goals of Scholarship, Character, Culture and Service. The Task Force's Co-Chairs advise the President, create and help facilitate events on racial equity and bias, assist in the development safe spaces and best practices, and cultivate a sense of belonging amongst staff, students, and faculty across campus.

A brief description of the institution’s cultural competence, anti-oppression, anti-racism, and/or social inclusion trainings and activities:
Intersections of EDJI-cation: The Equity, Diversity, Justice, and Inclusion Task Force put on a mini-conference activity in April of 2022. The conference was open to all staff, students, and faculty members at the College. The event brought together campus members and members of the community for a keynote speech, student panel on interdisciplinary and intersectional learning experiences, and a Think-Action workshop entitled Restorative Justice in Education and Beyond.

Racial Equity Rowan: College faculty have the opportunity to participate in Racial Equity Rowan's two-day Deconstructing Racism Workshop. The training combines lectures, active learning, group activities, and guided discussions to create a sense of learning and unlearning centered on the concept of race and racism. The College offers to cover any fee associated with attendance for Faculty.

All staff and faculty are required to complete and comply with Title IX training.
