Student sustainability research incentives 

Does the institution have an ongoing program to encourage students in multiple disciplines or academic programs to conduct sustainability research?:
Yes

A brief description of the student sustainability research program:
The Catawba College Center for the Environment provides up to four grants of up to $2,000 each annually to support student or faculty research that is directly linked to at least one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition, the James M. Beard Student Science Travel Award is awarded to certain students conducting mentored research in the disciplines of Environment & Sustainability, Biology, or Chemistry. The Award includes funding up to $500 to cover travel costs for students to present research at an academic conference.

Provided below is an excerpt from the Catawba College Faculty Handbook on tenure and promotion procedures, explaining support for scholarship that is interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary as a view of scholarship defined broadly.

"Scholarship must be defined broadly to capture the many facets of scholarly work our faculty pursue. Thus, scholarship may refer to the scholarship of application (use of academic knowledge to assist with real-world problems, substantive contributions to learned societies), the scholarship of teaching (research in pedagogy within the chosen field), the scholarship of integration (convergence and integration of knowledge from multiple areas, to include professional artistic performances or presentations), and the scholarship of discovery. [...] "

The Catawba College Corriher-Linn-Black Library provides research guides, referred to as LibGuides, to all students and staff. Relevant to this section for sustainability research, the Library offers LibGuides for Environmental Science & Studies and Equity, Diversity, Justice, and Inclusion to assist students in their pursuit of research on socio-ecological issues and concepts.
