A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :

The College hosts a Sustainability Picnic event every year during orientation with the Office of the President and the Office of Student Affairs. The picnic immediately follows Convocation and is a zero-waste event that includes locally-sourced food options. Students and faculty are brought together through various sustainability-related tabling events. During the previous year's picnic, one table included the Fred Stanback Jr. Ecological Preserve Keeper informing students about the benefits of keeping plants in dorms. Another table offered succulents to students. Faculty in Chemistry had a table where there were demonstrations on creating safe balms and lotions. These sustainability-related tables at the picnic are part of a greater "Meet the Majors" effort to develop student interest in the Environment & Sustainability, Chemistry, and Biology programs at the College.
