A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
Students have access to Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS), which addresses the mental health needs of the students by providing a safe and confidential environment for students to talk about their personal and academic concerns. CaPS provides a wide array of services with the purpose of improving student’s psychological health by facilitating insight and personal growth. CaPS also provides education and training in different topics of mental health and suicide prevention. CaPS is attentive to issues of diversity and equality and we strive to deliver socially-just and anti-racist clinical services. CaPS collaborates and partners with other departments and services on campus to better understand the student experience, inform our services, and create new opportunities for growth. CaPS also consults with staff and faculty and offer trainings and education on how to help students.
Faculty, staff, and graduate students have access to a comprehensive set of programming and resources intended to provide stability and support:
- Family Care Concierge Service supports parents and families within the CMU community by providing personalized support. The concierge specialists can answer your questions or find resources to help with child care, elder care and more. The service is available at no cost to CMU faculty, staff and graduate students.
- The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers support, resources and information at no cost to employees and their household members on a wide range of personal and work-life issues including: Confidential Counseling, Financial Information, Legal Support and Resources, Work-Life Solutions, Tobacco Cessation, and GuidanceResources® Online.
- Access to free Group X-ercise classes.
- Human Resources sponsors annual flu vaccines for faculty and staff.

Policy Statement
Smoking of tobacco products is prohibited in all university buildings and facilities owned, leased, or operated by Carnegie Mellon University, including campus vehicles. Smoking of tobacco products is also prohibited on all grounds and outside areas except for limited designated outdoor areas where the negative effects of second-hand exposure is deemed sufficiently low. As such, major campus thoroughfares, gathering spaces and entrances to buildings are not designated areas. The number, nature and location of designated areas was determined by an oversight committee convened by the university’s Environmental Health & Safety department and comprised of representatives from Faculty Senate, Graduate Student Assembly, Staff Council and Student Senate.
