Core@CMU is the university-wide, general education course requirement for all degree-seeking undergraduate students. Core@CMU is an engaging, online learning experience where students develop core competency skills in the "Core 4" domains, which includes Intercultural & Global Learning + Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI). Learning outcomes for this domain includes:

  • Explore how cultural contexts influence individual identity development
  • Consider, examine, and integrate differences between individual positions and the positions of others in multiple cultural contexts.
  • Demonstrate an attitude of inclusion by engaging mindfully across a diversity of lived experiences
  • Recognize the role that individuals play in advancing equity and identify ways in which they may contribute in these roles

Faculty and staff can opt into cultural competence trainings for professional development. HR provides and strongly encourages staff to complete a number of different diversity, equity, and inclusion on-demand training courses. There are also a number of DEI leadership certificate programs available to CMU staff.
