Carnegie Mellon University was recognized as a 2024 Breastfeeding Friendly Place by the Allegheny County Health Department's Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. This award recognizes workplaces and public spaces that “make an extra effort to accommodate breastfeeding mothers.”
CMU's lactation support program has also been recognized by the Pennsylvania Breastfeeding Coalition with a Breastfeeding-Friendly Employer certificate. The award distinguishes CMU as a leader in Pennsylvania, joining a growing number of businesses, schools and universities providing employee lactation support.
Carnegie Mellon recognizes the importance and benefits of providing breast milk for infants. As part of its commitment to providing a family-friendly work environment, the university has made special accommodations to support families as they work to provide milk for their children. Whether you are on campus or at home, Carnegie Mellon's award-winning lactation support program is designed to ensure parents have the time and resources they need.
CMU offers several lactation rooms on and off campus. These spaces are available to students, staff, faculty, and guests, providing a comfortable and private environment for breastfeeding mothers. There are also online resources and support for those who are breastfeeding.
