Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
In 2023, Carnegie Mellon worked with the Post-Landfill Action Network (PLAN) to conduct a holistic assessment of the campus’ waste management system using the Atlas Zero Waste Stage 1 Assessment.
After a semester of interviews with campus stakeholders, lead by a CMU student Fellow, CMU received a score of 53.3%. While this score does not earn a ranking (bronze is a minimum of 59.5%) PLAN’s Atlas Zero Waste project has found so far that the average campus scores between 40-50%, so CMU is above average.
