Democracy Day at Carnegie Mellon University is dedicated to fostering civic participation, well-being and community engagement. It is an opportunity to underscore the CMU community’s focus on our shared institutional commitment to civic service and democracy on Election Day. For employees wishing to volunteer at the polls in service of the community at large, CMU recognizes time spent volunteering during Election Day as time worked and paid.
The university also encourages and provides opportunities for staff to take time during the work day for several formal initiatives such as the annual Staff Council Community Food Bank Drive, Toys for Tots, and University Police Polar Plunge.
