The Breathe Project is a clearinghouse for information on air quality in Pittsburgh, southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond. We use the best available science and technology to better understand the quality of the air we breathe and provide opportunities for citizens to engage and take action.

The Breathe Collaborative is a coalition of citizens, environmental advocates, public health professionals and academics working to improve air quality, eliminate climate pollution and make our region a healthy and prosperous place to live. The Collaborative powers the Breathe Project through science-based work and a community outreach platform. Carnegie Mellon University’s CREATE Lab and the Center for Atmospheric Particle Studies are collaborators on this project.

Juntos, a student organization advised by the SLICE Office and the Office of International Education (OIE), focuses on creating sustainable, effective initiatives to positively impact Pittsburgh and small communities in Latin America, particularly in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. They also strive to raise awareness of cultural and political issues affecting Latin America in the local Pittsburgh community.

They partner with Bridges to Community, an American non-government organization that works primarily in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. They coordinate Juntos with a small community in need, and Juntos works with that community for approximately four to five years before transitioning to another. Juntos assists the community in question with sustainable projects on alternative break trips and projects.
