A brief description of the program, policy, or practice:
Gender neutral housing is a program in the Oakland Community Apartments that permits upper-class male and female residents to reside in the same room. Carnegie Mellon continuously strives to promote a campus environment that is inclusive and supportive of student diversity in the areas of sexual orientation and gender identity. The Division of Student Affairs is committed to providing and promoting opportunities that increase awareness of GLBT issues and concerns, and ensuring that university programs and services are inclusive and supportive of GLBT issues. Campus resources include: SoHo, Carnegie Mellon’s GLBT Resource Center located in the University Center, Room 325; ALLIES, a student organization focusing on education and outreach; and SafeZone, a campus network designed to improve the visibility and support for GLBT community members, family and allies. First year students are encouraged to learn more about GLBT programming at the SoHo Open House during Orientation week. Keep an eye out for Pride Month (October) and Gaypril (April) programs.
