We do not participate in the TRIO Programs.


A brief description of the institution’s policies and programs to minimize the cost of attendance for low-income students?:

Our institutional financial aid awarding practices recognize the importance of affordability. For low income students who possess the academic and leadership attributes we value, these students will receive grants, employment opportunities and students loans to enable them to enroll and remain enrolled.


A brief description of the institution’s programs to equip the institution's faculty and staff to better serve students from low-income backgrounds:

We do not have any specific program that equips faculty and staff to better serve students from low income backgrounds only. We train staff to help families at all need levels...not just low income.


A brief description of the institution’s programs to prepare students from low-income backgrounds for higher education:

Our Office of Admission has a program called ‘ College Selection 101’. It’s geared to students from the city schools in Pittsburgh. Not necessarily geared to low income students....but it does tend to bring a very diverse set of students to the university in May for information sessions on how to prepare for college.

While we do not have designated scholarship programs for low-income students, we have financial aid policies and practices in place which provide the financial aid funding
necessary to enable their enrollment and retention.

We provide financial aid counsel as needed, through high school presentations, during the admissions process and during the student’s enrollment.

We have a need blind admission process, so we don’t do outreach to any segments of our population on the basis of need only. However, we do target high school visits to urban areas with broad diversity.

We practice holistic need blind admission, taking a number of factors into consideration when making admission decisions. These factors include academic and/or artistic talent, secondary school performance, standardized testing, extracurricular participation, leadership experiences, community service, essays and personal statement and teacher and counselor recommendations.
