Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
Yes

A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:

Carleton University hosts the Unified Support Centre (USC), which is a volunteer-based space consisting of the Food Centre and an on-campus food support and advocacy service. Students, who are experiencing food insecurity, are provided with food hampers both for pick up and delivery. Requests for hampers are made online, with each student entitled to two hampers per month, where that is insufficient an enhanced request can be made. In addition, the centre offers food-related educational programming such as food preparation events, and increases awareness of the presence of food insecurity and poverty in our community.

Carleton also hosts the Mealshare program. Mealshare is a one-for-one social enterprise that turns dining out experiences into helping out experiences. Partnering restaurants, like Carleton Dining, place Mealshare’s logo next to select menu items. When you purchase a Mealshare advertised menu item, you will receive your meal and a meal will be provided to a youth in need. Mealshare’s work combats youth hunger here in Ottawa and around the world. Half of the meals provided through Mealshare are directed to multiple organizations in Ottawa and the other half are shared globally through Save the Children. To date, over 3.4 million meals have been provided through Mealshare. Carleton Dining is proud to partner with Mealshare and help make the provision of even more meals possible.
