Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Net-Zero Energy Increase for Building Contract
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Per the 2012 strategic plan for the College, we knew we liked being a small liberats college which helped inform our facility's strategic plan. This plan made a commitment to update and replace buildings instead of adding new ones. For the new Anderson Hall, we decided to instead of updating the old Mudd Hall, that we would replace this building and connect it to the adjacent science buildings to make one integrated science center.
Where the innovation comes in is that we were adding an additional 50,000 square feet of net building space, but wrote into the contract that we did not want to see ANY net increase in energy usage for the building. We also wanted this building to be LEED. While the process for certification is not complete, we are tracking to be LEED Platinum.
