The VP People & Culture completed an EDI Audit (2022) and an Employee Engagement Survey (2023) that included elements of EDI. Additionally CAPU has conducted a Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey (bi-annually), sexual violence perception survey.

The EDI Audit was completed for the University to be able to enhance intersectional diversity, offer ongoing IDEA+B training, review Accessibility in terms of Accessible BC,, and to improve cross-cultural understanding with the employee and student populations through enhanced resources and training.

A Gender Diversity Audit was completed in 2018 for the student population. Consequently the information has not been included within the above. The audit was completed in partnership with the Capilano Students’ Union, and conducted by TransFocus Consulting. The resulting Gender Diversity Audit report produced a total of 36 recommendations for the university. CapU’s Gender Diversity Audit (GDA) Committee meets regularly to implement these recommendations, with approximately 85% of the recommendations now implemented.

 

In 2023, as part of the Gender Diversity Audit recommendations, the Office of Student Affairs, in partnership with QMunity, developed and launched a training program for employees on gender diversity and queer inclusion. This included an online course as well as circle-based facilitated training. The contract with QMunity is now concluded and the Office of Student Affairs is currently working on next steps to develop a Gender and Queer Inclusion online training for students.
