Total full-time equivalent student enrollment:
Full-time equivalent of employees:
Part 1. Student commute modal split
Total percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
In 2024, the Capilano Students Union completed a survey to better understand students communiting experiences relating to public transportation. 120 students volunteered to partake in the survey and the data was compared to similar exercises completed in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
As the survey primarily involved the use of public transport and included only a representative sample of the student population (those who volunteered to partake), the data cannot be used to determine the total percentage of students using more sustainable communiting options. Hence the above field has been left blank.
Additionally, the Institutional Research department have gathered data on new and returning student communiting. The data has been gathered on a year by year basis with approximately 320 new students and 490 returning students providing responses in 2023. The information gathered addresses the requirements to commute to campus, the methods of commuting to campus and average duration of commute.
The % of students using more sustainable commuting options has been based upon the responses gathered by Institutional Research in 2023. This is best reflected as a sample of the student population given that not all students responded to the survey. The % of sustainable transportation has been calculated per the below:
- Student responses = 802 (317 new, 485 returning)
- Sustainable transportation = 589 (73%)
- Public Transportation = 528 (65%)
- Carpool = 29 (3.5%)
- Family drop off = 13 (2%)
- Walk = 11 (1%)
- Bicycle = 8 (1%)
- 589/809*100 = 73%
The survey responses have been uploaded below.
