Local advocacy

Does the institution advocate for public policies that support campus sustainability or that otherwise advance sustainability at the municipal/local level?:
Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:

The university has strongly and publicly advocated for better public transit for the region. It has participated in transit networks and working groups, including the current North Shore Connects group of municipal leaders in our region. Improved transit will incentivize students and employees to choose active transportation over personal vehicles for commuting to campus.

CapU has also addressed local municipal council on housing issues. Having more housing options on and near our campuses reduces commuting times for students and employees, which reduces the number of people commuting in traffic, and addresses mental good health and well-being, which is a focus area for the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The above engagement was completed by Capilano University's President, Paul Dangerfield, and therefore on behald of and isupported by the institutions highest governing body.
