CapU also invites employees to an average of fifty (50) internal workshops and courses each year with topics ranging from financial management, estate planning, tax strategies, pension planning, retirement planning, cybersecurity & fraud protection, respectful workplace training, CapU Lead 1 (for upcoming employees), CapU Lead 2 (for current managers), Sexual Violence Awareness, Plan for Resilience, Ergonomics, Cultural Awareness and Cultural Safety, Employee Talking Circles, EDI Fundamentals, Inclusive Workplaces, Systems Change, Invasive Species walk and talks, and Everything DiSC (Agile EQ, DiSC Management, DiSC Work of Leaders, and DiSC Productive conflict), to name just a few.

There are a vast array of topics that are offered in the workshops and training opportunities above, but these can be categorized as follows:

  • Employee mental health – Based around The Working Mind, this training series aims to address mental health to promote greater and long lasting employee wellbeing. The series covers various elements including mental health stigmas, assessments and dialogue, stress and resilience, and managerial strategies for fostering wellbeing amongst employees. (Note – this training is currently on hold due to Maternity Leave). Employees are also required to complete the Respectful Workplace training, aimed at creating an environment that is inclusive and welcoming for all employees.

  • Employee financial health – A series of workshops designed to help promote healthy financial habits, both short term and long term. The series features downloadable workbooks, free webinars and online workshops covering topics such as Pension Planning, Fraud Protection, Saving Strategies and general financial management.

  • Equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging – CAPU has partnered with the Canadian Center for Diversity and Inclusion which provides a vast array of resources and training opportunities. Courses that are particularly relevant to CAPU are promoted via an online workshop calendar, accessible to all employees.

  • Professional development – Professional development is accessible via Linkedin Learning, which includes a multitude of topics, as well as via a Professional Development Fund aimed at external course tuition. While not mandatory, these resources can be utilized to cover many topics related to sustainability.

  • Personal development – Personal Development is primarily made available via Linkedin Learning resources or DiSC training, which promotes self-awareness and using self-reflection to promote effective working relations.

  • Indigenization and Decolonization – In 2022, CAPU held a Cultural Protocols, Empathy and Safety workshop aimed at CAPU leadership. Launched in February 2024, CAPU developed  Chén̓chenstway, a living document that outlines CAPU’s journey towards reconciliation (See Innovation entry). The document includes goals relating to increased training and development regarding Indigenization and Decolonization. While not currently live, the details have been included due to the recent launch of the document.

Additionally, all employees have free tuition with any of the credit courses that we offer here at CapU, no matter whether related to their job or their own individual growth. All employees also have access to three free Continuing Studies courses each year. CAPU offers a range of sustainability focused and sustainability inclusive courses as detailed within AC01.
