Does the institution have an ongoing program that offers incentives for academic staff in multiple disciplines or departments to develop new sustainability courses and/or incorporate sustainability into existing courses? :

A brief description of the incentive program(s):
CAPU does not have any formal incentive program specific to the development of sustainability courses; however does provide Section Release and Professional Development Funding that may be utilized for the purpose of furthering sustainability. Additionally, any courses and programs with a sustainability focus are in line with commitments in the academic plan and as such may be prioritized.
CAPU Section Release is available to faculty members to assist in the devlopment of new Programs. This incentive has intigated the development of the Batchelor of Environment and Society, which if approved is anticipated to commence in fall 2025. Faculty have 8 weeks per academic year for professional development activities, which often includes course development and/or redesign. CapU has not been tracking new “sustainability” focused courses approved by SCC and Senate beyond new and current courses requesting the Cap Core Science and Technology designation. These include:

The Faculty Professional Development Fund is allocated for the reimbursement of expenses incurred by faculty members for activities, projects, training, or research that will enhance and improve teaching at Capilano University. While not exclusively related to Sustainability, the funds do enable staff to progress their knowlegde in fields such as sustainability to compliment their tuition.

There are no formal incentives specific to sustinability course development. However, Section Release and Faculty Professional Development enables faculty to focus on the developent of new programs which may include sustainability.
