Narrative outlining the institutional boundary used to complete this report:

Canadore College is a public college located in North Bay, Ontario, with additional campuses in West Parry Sound (WPS). The institution provides post-secondary education and training in various disciplines and serves a diverse student population, primarily consisting of young adults ranging from 18 to 25 years of age, although students of all ages enroll in its programs. Students are able to complete programs certicate, diploma, advanced diploma, and degree programs.

The college operates four campuses:

  • North Bay Campuses (Aviation, College Drive, and Commerce Court)
  • West Parry Sound Campus

Campus Details:

College Drive spans 650 acres, with approximately 460 acres of FSC and SFI certified forested land. This campus is the largest in terms of land size and includes various student and community facilities such as academic buildings, health clinics, student services, and recreation.

Aviation is located in close proximity to the airport.

Commerce Court is located in close proximity to an industrial area.

Note: The same services are offered at Aviation and Comerce court with the exception of the health clinic which is offered at the main campus only. However, students from other campuses do have full access.

  • West Parry Sound Campus a much smaller campus in comparison offers access to a number of the above mentioned services as a remote or scaled option.

Canadore College's commitment to sustainability includes efforts to reduce the environmental impact across all its campuses and improve operational efficiencies, with a focus on energy management, waste reduction, and resource conservation.

Excluded:

    • Residence Buildings: These buildings are not included in the sustainability report, as they are managed separately by Campus Living Centres. Any sustainability efforts within residence facilities would need to be considered separately and would not impact Canadore College’s reported performance.

This delineation of responsibility is important for understanding the scope of sustainability efforts that are directly under the college’s control. The exclusion of residence buildings means that certain waste management, energy use, and sustainability practices at these locations will not be included in the college’s overall environmental footprint, even though they may have their own sustainability initiatives.

Limitations:

  • Residence Buildings: Sustainability data from externally managed residence buildings are excluded. Efforts in these areas, like green building standards and waste reduction, are not reflected in the college's metrics.
  • Externally Managed Facilities: Key facilities managed by external companies (e.g., residences) are not included in operational efficiency and sustainability metrics.
  • Geographical Scope: Sustainability data may not fully reflect campus differences, such as the 460-acre forest at North Bay at the College Drive Campus. Variations in land use and conservation efforts could impact institution-wide sustainability assessments.
