Percentage of employees eligible for paid all-gender family/medical leave:

Narrative and/or website URL providing an overview of the institution’s eligibility criteria for paid family/medical leave:

Canadore College provides paid family and medical leave as part of its comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees (regular full time employees - support, academic, and admin). Full-time employees are entitled to paid leave for medical reasons, caregiving responsibilities, or other family-related needs, in accordance with the terms outlined in their collective agreements or employment contracts.

Part-Time Support Staff (PTSS) are newly unionized and do not currently have access to benefits. As a result, they are not eligible for the enhanced paid leave described above. However, they are entitled to the minimum leave provisions under the Employment Standards Act (ESA), which include job-protected leave that may qualify for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.

Specific eligibility criteria include:

  • Employment Type: Paid leave benefits are primarily available to full-time staff. Part-time or contract employees may have access to similar benefits on a prorated basis or as specified in their agreements.
  • Duration of Leave: The duration and pay for family/medical leave are determined based on individual circumstances, employment category, and provincial regulations, ensuring compliance with Ontario's Employment Standards Act (ESA).
  • Purpose of Leave: Paid leave may be granted for illness, injury, the birth or adoption of a child, or the care of a family member facing serious health challenges.

Canadore College also emphasizes inclusivity and flexibility in addressing employee needs, complementing paid leave options with additional resources, such as mental health support and access to Employee and Family Assistance Programs (EFAP).
