Does the institution make physical health services available to students?:
Yes

Narrative and/or website URL providing an overview of the institution’s physical health services for students:

The Campus Health Services provides students with convenient access to a wide array of medical services including: illness/primary and sexual health, immunizations, first aid and sutures, communicable disease screening, TB testing and disease prevention.

We have a physician, nurse and medical laboratory services on site. 

Canadore College’s on-campus dental hygiene clinic is run by Dental Hygiene faculty, staff and students and offers a variety of services to patients:

  • Free dental cleaning for everyone above the age of three
  • Referrals to medical doctors and dentists
  • Smoking cessation
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Mouth guards
  • Full oral examination (hard & soft tissue/teeth & gums)
  • Nutritional counselling
  • Radiographs and duplication of radiographs
  • Professional teeth whitening

The Village at Canadore has also partnered with the Community Paramedicine program to offer a check-in clinic for international students and new Canadians. The clinic runs the third Friday of every month from 1 pm until 3 pm. International students are also able to access all above noted services, additionally.

Student Success Services value the important role education plays in personal growth and enhancing students quality of life. Mental Health Navigators are here to support students - academically, socially and personally - with short-term (free), confidential mental health services. Student Success offers support to help students develop skills, attitudes, abilities and insights to meet both academic and life challenges, assist them in overcoming personal challenges that may pose a barrier to their success, and connect them to additional community resources.

Canadore has also developed a comprehensive Student Mental Health and Well-Being Strategy

Our Student Mental Health and Well-Being Strategy outlines a systemic approach to promoting mental health and well-being. It is the realization of the first phase of a comprehensive three-year roadmap to support programs, services and campus activities that will enable all members of our community to realize their potential in an environment that conducive to mental health and well-being while learning, working and living and ensuring social connectedness.

All full-time students who have paid the extended health plan fee are automatically enrolled in the guard.me Extended Health Plan at Canadore. 

Canadore’s Light Therapy lounge is open to students at our College Drive Campus (D230) and is open to all Canadore students. The space is open during regular school hours.

Canadore students can book a light therapy lamp for loan by visiting their on-campus Student Success Services department.

The College has also launched the International Student Wellness Kit. This resource is created specifically to support international students across all our campuses. This kit is designed for current and propective students and provides the following resources:

  • Academic Success
  • Mental and Emotional Support
  • Physical Well-Being

It offers a wide range of academic resources, stress management strategies, and practical tips to ensure student success.

Canadore College has a growing diverse population and to maintain an inclusive campus, the Multi-Faith Meditation Room (C138, College Drive) is an optional space where individuals can practice all religious and spiritual beliefs in a respectful environment.

The space has a neutral design allowing individuals to practice their beliefs whether it's meditation, prayer, yoga, or any other religious beliefs for students and staff.

The Zen Garden, dedicated to our international students and partners, transforms with the changing seasons. In spring, cherry blossoms grace the garden with their delicate blooms, while summer brings vibrant irises into full bloom. Autumn illuminates the space with the fiery reds and golds of maple leaves. In winter, both native and Japanese trees are meticulously pruned in the traditional Japanese style, creating a serene, framed landscape. Regardless of the season, stone paths meander over tranquil water features, offering a peaceful setting for reflection.

The College Council is a collaborative forum where students, staff, faculty, and administration come together to volunteer and drive positive changes in campus life. Whether addressing everyday operational concerns or engaging in strategic planning, the Council serves as a key platform for raising issues and influencing policy. As the only provincially-mandated committee advising the College President, it plays a vital role in shaping the college’s direction. Meeting minutes also include a dedicated section focused specifically on health and safety matters.

Canadore College offers a comprehensive financial assistance program to support both full-time and part-time students, with approximately $1.7 million in scholarships and bursaries awarded annually.

For students in need of immediate financial support, the Discretionary Bursary provides emergency funding throughout the academic year. Applications for this bursary can be submitted at any time. To apply, students should visit the Financial Aid Office (Room C204).

Additional emergency supports are also available through the Financial Aid Office.
