In the 2021 business plan, President George Burton committed Canadore College to achieving carbon neutrality by 2031. To advance this goal, the college established a Sustainability Fund, accessible to the Senior Director of Infrastructure and the Project Leader for the Living Sustainability Centre, aimed at supporting key decarbonization initiatives.
Thanks to this fund, several impactful projects have been approved, including the transition to smart LED lighting, the conversion of electric boilers, the implementation of cogeneration, the installation of an aerobic biodigester, and the addition of new water refill stations across all campuses.

To access the fund, a formal request must be submitted, providing a comprehensive background, rationale, and recommended course of action. This request is reviewed by the Senior Executive Team, which includes the following members:
- President and CEO
- Chief Financial Officer
- Director of Organizational Development and Talent Management
- Vice President, Strategic Infrastructure, Indigenous, and Learner Services
- Vice President, Academic
This process ensures the responsible management and allocation of funds. All must approve before a project can move forward.
