7.1 Continuing education offerings in sustainability

Canadore College's Academic Centre of Excellence collaborated with Colleges and Institutes Canada to develop the course "Introduction to Environmental Literacy and Citizenship." This course aims to enhance understanding of environmental literacy, climate change realities, and the unseen impacts of carbon footprints. It also explores climate mitigation, the circular economy, renewable energy, and strategies for resilience and adaptation to climate change.
Additionally, the course "Sustainable Innovation: Integrating Circular Economy and Biomimicry into Climate Action," developed in collaboration with Beyond21 Academy, includes practical activities such as planting a Miyawaki Forest, equipping participants with tools to implement sustainable changes in their communities and professions.
The 14-week "Introduction to Sustainable Development" addresses the broad concepts of sustainable development, focusing on environmental, economic, and social sustainability, and the effects of human resource needs on natural ecosystems. This course offers insights into how social and economic factors influence local and global sustainability and is available in both hybrid and fully online formats. This course is offered through Continuing Education.

The “Re-Seeing the Carpentry Trade: A Greening Resource for Faculty.” was developed by our Academic Centre of Excellence in partnership with Colleges and Institutes Canada
This open educational resource is intended to serve as a foundation for greening the carpentry trade. The authors have also made efforts to incorporate Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing into this resource while offering carpentry faculty some thoughts on how they could do the same in their courses.
The Battery Electric Vehicles course offered through Continuing Education provides an introduction to Electric Vehicle (EV) technology for the general public, including the history of EVs, the Global Impact of EV as well as selling Electric Vehicles and high-level information on the Servicing of EVs.
