Seniors Project - The Village
The Village Collective is made up of 87 collaborating and partner organizations and several consultation organizations. The Collective has a shared vision for change in our region that “every senior and Indigenous senior is socially connected and engaged in their community.”
The long-term goals are: to foster an inclusive, age-friendly, and dementia-friendly community through inter-cultural, inter-professional, and inter-generational approaches, and to strengthen community connections to prevent future isolation.
The project team is dedicated to building sustainable, successful community partnerships, focusing on three key areas:
- Creating an innovative, age-friendly and dementia-friendly community;
- Promoting social participation and inclusion by removing barriers;
- Providing meaningful, intergenerational learning experiences for both students and seniors.
This work is supported by a dedicated group of students, known as Community Connectors. Their involvement helps build community capacity and ensures the long-term sustainability of changes that improve services for seniors. In turn, seniors contribute to better preparing students for the workforce, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship.
In the fall of 2021, in-person programming for seniors was introduced at both The Village and the West Parry Sound Campus. These programs include VON exercise classes, student-led walking groups, Learning to Live Fit, speaker series, pickleball, and drop-in social activities.

Are all of the institution’s community partnerships for sustainability subject to an assessment process that includes joint evaluation by the institution and its community partners?:
Description of the institution’s approach to community partnership assessment and how the results are used to improve reciprocity and mutual benefit:
Our institution’s community partnerships for sustainability are subject to an assessment process that includes joint evaluation. Specifically, when formal agreements such as a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) are in place, both the college and its community partners collaborate to evaluate activities. This process ensures that the proposed activities align with the core values of the college. Additionally, all activities under these agreements are supported by senior team members to ensure alignment with the institution's strategic objectives and that they align with the policies and core values of Canadore College and our valued partners.
Both partnerships and the policies that guide them are reviewed on a regular basis.
