A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:
Camosun College, through the Office of Environmental Sustainability, has advocated for public policy that supports sustainability in a number of ways. These include: • Environmental Sustainability Manager collaboration/recommendations to the BC Ministry of Environment, Climate Action Secretariat, around Carbon Neutral Government reporting requirements and the Carbon Neutral Capital Funds program improvements. • Office of Environmental Sustainability Manager and employees have been involved in various regional committees advocating for improved active and alternative transportation options. These include the Capital Regional District’s (CRD) Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan, CRD Transportation Planning Technical Advisory Committee, Saanich’s Shelbourne Corridor Action Plan Stakeholder Committee and CRD Regional Growth Strategy Camosun has continued to advocate for improved transit service to serve students through regular communication to BC Transit as well as presentations to the BC Transit Commission.
