Employee assistance program (EAP)

The employee assistance program is designed to offer confidential assistance to employees, spouses and dependents whose personal problems are affecting their quality of life and/or job performance. The Center for Counseling and Wellness exists for Calvin students: The Center for Counseling and Wellness is a free resource for Calvin students who aim to grow and thrive emotionally through their college years. We offer a broad range of services that are customized to the specific needs and strengths of each student through the use of a Stepped Care Model. All services are designed to support student wellness and emotional flourishing, helping to equip students for wholehearted pursuit of their academic pursuits as well as healthy engagement with their community. Calvin's Smoking Policy:

According to Grand Rapids Clean Indoor Air Ordinance and Calvin’s Smoking Policy, Calvin University is a smoke-free campus with the exception of specifically designated smoking areas. Smoking is prohibited in all campus buildings. Those who choose to smoke must do so only during regular break periods, in designated smoking areas and must dispose of trash appropriately.

For the purpose of this policy, smoking is defined as the act of lighting, smoking, carrying a lighted or smoldering cigar, and inhaling e-cigarettes, vaporizers, and the like. Smoking cessation programs are available through Calvin’s Employee Health Plan.

Here is a list of Calvin’s approved smoking areas:
- The smoking area at the northeast end of the Chapel patio has been relocated to an area to the west of the loading dock on the south side of Hiemenga Hall (look for the designated receptacles).
- Likewise, the smoking area at the north entrance to the Library Lobby has been relocated to the patio area to the east of the loading dock on the south side of Hiemenga Hall.
- The smoking area at the north entrance to Johnny’s Café has been relocated to the brick wall area just east of the Campus Store. The Commons Loading Dock area is also a designated smoking area in this vicinity.
- The designated area to the west of the Knollcrest Dining Hall has received outdoor renovations, and this area has been combined with the Smoking Areas along the walkway toward Kalsbeek-Huizenga and the north east side of the Knollcrest Dining Hall.
