Research Inventory

Inventory of the institution’s sustainability research:
The list is available online from the Faculty Activity Reports: https://calvincollege.quickbase.com/db/bfvin7iyc?a=q&qid=352
[Accessed by going to this web page:
https://calvin.edu/offices-services/provost/resources/faculty-resources/faculty-activity-reporting/report.html
and then selecting 2017-2018 College-wide Sustainability FAR report.]

Note that the scope of the list is larger than the requirements for this credit: the FAR reports all sustainability related activity, not just related to research and scholarship. However, the numbers reported in the credit accurately reflect the sustainability research of the institution.

A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
All faculty are expected to self-report their scholarly activities and designate any of those activities that are related to sustainability.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
The numbers provided for this credit were taken from the 2018-2019 FAR public reports and from Visiting Scholar research. The total # of faculty (overall and then for Sustainability-related research) was taken from the totals line at the bottom of the report. Visiting Scholars conducting research at Calvin College were also counted in the totals for both research in general and sustainability research.

To compute the department totals, the list was sorted by departments. This number (for sustainability research) includes academic departments, along with administration, library, and the Clean Water Institute.

General research also included Academic Services, Service Learning, Nagel Institute, Center for Social Research, and the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship.

NOTE: The Faculty Advising Reports include numbers for faculty and staff, even though the report is titled with "ALL Faculty."
NOTE: The total number of departments that conduct research is NOT copied from PRE-5 purposefully.
NOTE: The Faculty Advising Reports include numbers for all sustainability related activity, not just research
NOTE: Calvin's internal definition of research includes considering 'applied research'
