Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Number of divisions and departments comes from p. 285 of the 15-16 Calvin College Academic Catalog. FTE & Headcount of staff and faculty is from IPEDS Human Resources 2015-16 survey. Student Headcount & FTE counts are from 12-month Enrollment IPEDS Survey (submitted in fall of 2016 to report total unduplicated 12-month enrollments for 2015-16 academic year.) NOTE: In last year's STARS report, we used Fall 2014 Day 10 report which had fewer students. This may cause a false improvement in our score because this year, and following, will have a larger denominator (student count). All future STARS reports should use IPEDS report for student counts as well as Staff/Faculty. Residential students is from "Enrollment by Residence Hall" internal report (provided by Assoc. Director of Enrollment Research). These numbers exclude students living Project Neighborhood houses. (Fall 2014 was 2,269) Fall 2015 is: 2,189 Non-credit students: estimate based on history. Counts for residential employees are obtained from Director of Resident Life (Becki Levad Simpson). These numbers do include the college president (1 employee and 1 family member) and the Observatory house (1 employee and 5 family members). If the Observatory house is not counted as part of the Calvin footprint, then these numbers should be reduced (Question for Physical Plant, BRH - 11.9.2016) Distance Learning: Taken from IPEDs Fall Enrollment Survey, Fall Enrollment by Distance Education. Ugrad: 1 students took exclusively UG distance courses in Fall 2015. 1 * 3.5 credits per course = 3.5 total credits. 3.5/12 (credit hours to be full-time student) = .3 FTE UG. Graduate: 49 graduate students took distance courses. 49 * 2.5 (credits) / 9 (credits to be fulltime graduate) = 13.6. (Assuming that online grad students are mostly Education and only take one course at a time, and on average the course counts for 2.5 credits.) .3 + 13.6 = 13.9 FTE exclusively distance learners.
