A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
The Student Health Center is a fully accredited outpatient clinic that provides primary medical care, health education, wellness promotion, and disease prevention to students at Stanislaus State. Our facility is housed in the Health Center Building and is equipped with nine up-to-date examination rooms, a pharmacy, a clinical laboratory, a minor surgery room, and an infirmary (short stay) room. The mission of the Student Health Center is to provide eligible students quality, evidence based healthcare, preventative services, health education, and advocacy for optimal health within the university community. As does the campus, we challenge one another to realize our potential, to appreciate and contribute to the enrichment of our diverse community, and to develop a passion for lifelong learning. To facilitate this mission, we will promote healthy lifestyles, foster edifying relationships, and encourage self-development, as well as evaluate, recognize, and support our students in their pursuit of higher education by caring for their physical and mental health.

The mission of Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) is to maintain and enhance students' psychological, emotional, and relational well-being. CAPS facilitates a successful experience in academic and social realms for students at Stan State, and provides professional, ethical, and confidential psychological counseling to students. Voluntary, non-coerced participation is emphasized. Students can arrange individual appointments with a professional, licensed counselor. CAPS also offers groups and wellness workshops, outreach, and consultation. Services are offered using a proactive, developmental and systemically-oriented model which supports a multicultural, collaborative, and diverse campus community. Psychological Counselors assist students to develop cognitive and emotional integration, relationship skills, and personal resilience.

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is administered by Empathia. This is a University-paid benefit for eligible employees and dependents (up to age 26). All employees, their dependents (including dependent children not residing with the parent) and other individuals living in the employee’s home are eligible for services and may contact LifeMatters directly. This benefit includes services such as counseling, work/life balance, crisis response, grief, coping, and resiliency, and also a weekly podcast. Referral services are available on a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week basis. Each eligible person is entitled to up to 5 sessions per incident. Face-to-Face Clinical Counseling is available for issues such as relationship concerns and family problems, stress/emotional distress, workplace problems, and alcohol/chemical dependency. Additional services include telephone consultations for life management issues such as financial concerns, finding childcare providers, elder care needs and concerns, tax issues, legal advice, organizing personal affairs, and pre-retirement considerations. The Employee Assistance Program has a nationwide network. This benefit can be accessed 24/7 by telephone at 1-800-367-7474 or on the web at www.mylifematters.com. Please refer to the Information & Resources section of your myStanState portal for the password to access benefits.

Per Executive Order 1108 (https://calstate.policystat.com/policy/6591951/latest/), all CSU campuses will be smoke and tobacco free as of September 1, 2017.

The CSU Chancellor’s Office issued an executive order announcing a system-wide policy that all 23 campuses will become smoke and tobacco free. The policy will apply to all students, faculty, staff, volunteers, contractors or vendors, and visitors. It also covers all University buildings, including residence halls, and off-campus buildings like the HSU Aquatic Center in Eureka and the Telonicher Marine Lab in Trinidad.

The policy prohibits the use of cigarettes, cigars, pipes and other smoke emitting products, including e-cigarettes and vapor devices. Further definitions are provided in the executive order, which is available online.

“A cornerstone of the California State University and higher education is the principle of one’s individual freedom to learn, teach, work, think, and take part in their intellectual and career endeavors in a fulfilling, rewarding, safe, and healthy environment,” the Executive Order states.
