The cultural assessment was developed and distributed for the second time in Fall 2022. The assessment was given to all staff/faculty and to 50% of the students. This survey will be given every two years to measure change over time.
The survey was developed after reviewing several STARS surveys from other schools and talking with ASU on how they develop their combined literacy and culture survey. We combined our literacy and cultural survey, as it is better to do fewer surveys than more.

We administered the survey to all staff and faculty and then a representative sample of our student body. We ensured we had a good breakdown of each grade level in school in addition to other diversity breakdowns.
We had a 10% response rate from students and a 26.4% response rate from faculty/staff.
Everyone was emailed their survey link and then there were two reminders to take the survey. The survey was open for two weeks, running from October 4th - October 17th 2022.
A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment:
Overall, the responses were positive. 66% of respondents felt that CSUSM is creating a culture of sustainability. In addition, 95% of respondents have an interest in sustainability, ranging from "slightly interested" to "very interested".
27% of those who responded had knowledge of the work that CSUSM is doing around Inclusive Sustainability initiatives. Lastly, 84% of the student respondents are familiar with Intersectional Environmentalism.
