Does the institution host a peer-to-peer textbook exchange program, textbook lending library, or alternate textbook project?:
Yes

A brief description of the textbook exchange program, textbook lending library, or alternate textbook project:
The Office of Sustainability launched the Hornet Reuse App in 2022. Hornet Reuse directly benefits individuals by offering a free alternative to purchasing new items. Users can save money by acquiring furniture, books, school supplies, and more through the platform. Textbooks were exchanged among students at no cost.

The University Library has a variety of Open Education Resources and Affordable Learning Solutions programs. These enable faculty to provide more affordable and/or free learning materials and textbooks.

The University Bookstore offers textbook rentals that oftentimes cost half the price of purchasing books. This program also allows students to pay with multiple payment methods including financial aid.

Does the institution provide incentives for academic staff that explicitly encourage the authorship, peer review, and/or adoption of open access textbooks?:
Yes

A brief description of the incentives to encourage the authorship, peer review, and/or adoption of open access textbooks:
The Affordable Learning Community at Sacramento State is a collaborative effort among the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Services for Students with Disabilities (SSWD), the Sacramento State University Library, and the Hornet Bookstore.

The Affordable Learning Community helps improve course affordability for students, supports faculty in accessing and using open educational resources, and familiarizes the campus community with California State University’s (CSU) Affordable Learning Initiative. This initiative provides faculty with Mini-Grants that help with course affordability. The grant program is broken up into three types: Adoption, Remix, and Create. These grants range from significantly reducing the cost of course materials or textbook affordability to creating a course that does not rely on expensive course materials.
