A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:

Sac State supported the City of Sacramento in the amendment of Title 15 of the Sacramento City Code making local amendments to the California Building Standards Code requiring: - Building permit applications filed on or after January 1, 2023, for newly constructed buildings that are three stories or less to be all-electric buildings. - Building permit applications filed on or after January 1, 2026, for newly constructed buildings that are four stories or more to be all-electric buildings.

Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the state/provincial/regional level:

The New Construction Electrification Ordinance that was adopted in June 2021 was strongly supported by Sac State and once passed not only set building code requirements for the City of Sacramento, but also regionally.

Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the international level:

During the last 2 years, Sac State has partnered multiple times with Global Ties Sacramento and the U.S. Department of State to host visitors from around the world. These visitors met with campus Sustainability staff and executive leadership to discuss global climate issues and the policies and practices that can be implemented to slow climate change and mitigate its impacts. These visitors are in key decision-making roles in their respective countries, such as Mayors, Council members, and City Planners. During the most recent meeting, Sac State hosted representatives from Bolivia, Bahrain, Cote d’ Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Republic of Turkiye, Romania, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and Zimbabwe. 

 Additionally, Sac State is an active member of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, working globally to implement and promote the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Sacramento State encourages its students and alumni to be engaged in the political process. The university has hosted a number of forums on campus and near the state capitol. Sacramento State has supported undocumented students through the establishment of the Dreamer Resource Center.
