CSUN Sustainability Champions: Their goal is to engage and empower CSUN employees to expand sustainability knowledge and practices within their areas of influence. This network of sustainability communicators and practitioners fosters a culture of environmental and social stewardship, with the goal of having representation in every department across the campus. Sustainability Champions serve as an informational resource to others in their department and help identify opportunities to integrate sustainability into everyday operations.

Campus Tree Advisory Committee: While the responsibility of the campus trees ultimately lies with the campus grounds director, arborist, and facilities department, the Campus Tree Advisory Committee can assist in providing guidance, and education to the campus population as to the benefits of the campus trees, and development of connectivity to the community.

Zero Waste Committee: This group focuses on the active implementation of the campus's zero waste efforts primarily related to infrastructure needs, contract negotiations, grants, etc.

The mission of the Institute is to promote, facilitate, and develop educational, research, and university and community programs related to sustainability. The Institute serves as an umbrella organization across all the colleges of the university on issues related to sustainability and is committed to serving our campus community by increasing interdisciplinary and cross-functional communication, and supporting and aiding in the development and application of sustainability practices within the university and community.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
CSUN has three "arms" of sustainability: the Institute for Sustainability, Facilities - Energy and Sustainability, and Associated Students Sustainability.

FPDC: Energy & Sustainability Team
Facilities Planning, Design and Construction houses the Director of Energy and Sustainability, the Energy and Sustainability Coordinator and the Campus Energy Manager. These roles are charged with implementing the Sustainability and Climate Action Plans, making facility efficiency upgrades, growing renewable energy projects and improving the sustainable attributes of the campus’ physical infrastructure.

Institute for Sustainability
The Institute for Sustainability spearheads educational engagement efforts through curriculum development, events, tabling, social media, and digital newsletters. The Institute operates the campus food garden, which serves as a tool to educate campus and community members on the benefits of gardening, composting, and healthy dietary habits.

Associated Students Sustainability
ASSR coordinates the Sustainable Office Program, as well as campus recycling programs for bottles and cans, paper, cardboard, pallets, electronics, toner cartridges and more. Associated Students also houses the Associated Students Sustainability Committee charged with engaging and educating the campus on issues related to sustainability.
