Campus-Wide LED Lighting Upgrade Project

A brief description of the institution’s featured program, initiative, or accomplishment:

CSUN has begun a campus-wide LED lighting upgrade project. This project involves the removal of existing lighting and upgrading to more efficient LED lighting technology. The process began with the University Library, which is now complete, and will ultimately involve a total of 30 buildings by the end of Spring 2021. Financial incentives from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) will greatly reduce the project's cost.

Masters in Sustainability

A brief description of the second program/initiative/accomplishment:

California State University, Northridge is launching an interdisciplinary master’s degree in sustainability, set to begin fall 2022, to ensure that those working in the field share a common language and understanding of how issues concerning sustainability affect the environment, economy and society.

Tree Campus and Bee Campus USA Recognition

A brief description of the third program/initiative/accomplishment:

Tree Campus USA:
CSUN received recognition for the first time as a Tree Campus USA in February 2015. This is a program that was developed by the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota. These two organizations came together to recognized Universities that properly care for and maintain their Urban Forest. These organizations developed 5 standards that each university must meet in order to be considered for recognition as a Tree Campus USA.

Bee Campus USA
On November 13th 2018 CSUN became the 57th campus to be added to the Bee Campus USA Affiliates! Bee Campus USA fosters ongoing dialogue to raise awareness of the role pollinators play in our communities and what each of us can do to provide them with healthy habitat.
​The Bee Campus USA program endorses a set of commitments, defined in an application, for creating sustainable habitats for pollinators, which are vital to feeding the planet.
