A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory (including the types of faculty and staff included as researchers):
The Web of Science indexing report and a report of all actively funded research projects via Cayuse (grant management software) was used to search for projects and publications of the 833 tenured and tenure-track faculty. The titles and abstracts were searched for the same 144 keywords utilized in our identification of sustainability-related courses using a script that was developed. The keyword list was developed by the Sustainability Advisory Committee at the University of North Carolina for this purpose, and presented at the AASHE 2014 conference. Sustainability related research was identified as those with 3 or more keywords occurring in the title and abstract. The faculty members whose research or publications met these criteria are those included on the uploaded spreadsheet and counted in the total.
