The building energy consumption baseline is 1990, this was adopted because this is the date that is being used for our Green House Gas Inventory, Climate Action Plan as well as various CSU system wide and state wide goals.

CSUN has a 1 MW fuel cell generation operation that we recover waste heat from. This waste heat is then used for additional heating for our heating hot water (HHW) system as well as heating the University Student Union pool.

The University has a goal to meter all campus buildings for energy, water and natural gas. This project was started in FY 14/15 and by the end of 15/16 we will have metered 20+ buildings for electricity consumption. The majority of the campus is managed through our Siemens Energy Management System maintained by our Physical Plant Management department.
