Departments on campus must provide justifications for vehicle purchases prior to order to minimize the amount of vehicles owned on the campus. If supported, the purchasing of vehicles that use alternative fuels is promoted via policy to reduce university fleet vehicles GHG emissions per the Climate Action Plan. “Emissions will include both state and auxiliary organization purchases of electricity and natural gas; fleet, marine vessel usage; and other emissions the university or self-support entity has direct control over.

Additionally, campus vehicles purchased must adhere to state and federal mandates. The CSU systemwide policy sets the campuses towards a gradual zero emissions vehicles (ZEV) goal for the campuses. Specifically, it is to increase ZEVs 5% annually through FY 2024/2025 to a total of 50% of light duty fleet vehicle purchases.
