A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate for construction and demolition waste:
CSUMB, being an old military base, has many old buildings that are systematically being demolished. Demolition contracts require a minimum of 90% of non hazardous demolition waste be recycled. Additionally, construction contracts require the same. Metal, concrete, wood, clean sheetrock, and asphalt are all recycled. The bulk of our demolition has been completed. Projects during the pandemic were mostly fire alarm and roof upgrades. These have limited materials to be recycled, therefore overall waste was not tracked. As well, our sources for recycling shut down during the pandemic. Leaving no options other than landfill.
