Sustainability Office - Student Education and Outreach Team

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
A team of 4 student assistants was hired by the sustainability office. The team conducted various outreach and educational events in order to each the student population on campus. The events included: Kahoot game nights on sustainability-driven topics, recruiting for the Waste Watcher program, student-led gatherings on relevant environmental topics, a climate walk out event, movie showings of environmental issues, Campus Sustainability Plan participatory input at large scale campus events such as through student voting, tabling events focused on farm-table nutrition, collaborations with student organizations with an environmental component, and outreach through environmentally focused social media posts and campaigns.

Sustainability Virtual Living Learning Program

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):
The depopulation of the CSUMB campus community has cause a severely limited population of students housed on campus and has eliminated any ability to host in-person events, including outdoor events. This has interrupted the Sustainable Otter Living Learning Program (previously Project Leading Change). In leu of an in-person community Student Housing has created Virtual Living Learning Program to connect students living on campus with similar interests. This community utilizes a message board where students can share ideas, ask questions, and connect with each other. The current Resident Advisors are also encouraged to reach out to this communities contact list when they are doing a sustainability focused event.

Associated Students' - Environmental Affairs Committee

A brief description of the student educators program (3rd program):
The Environmental Affairs Committee (EAC) is a committee under CSUMB Associated Students (AS) that promotes sustainability both on and off campus. The purpose of the EAC is to advocate for the wellbeing of the environment and its inhabitants. The EAC is open to all years and all majors. The EAC has four working groups- Environmental Justice, Energy & Transportation, Diet & Waste, and Newsletter & PR-

The EAC is for everyone, but the primary audience that is most suited for the EAC are those who are interested in bettering the planet.

Prior to Covid, the Sustainable Living Learning Program was active in person for 22 weeks of our school year before the pandemic hit. During this time there were 4 student educators who worked an average of 5 hours per week, making their annual work total to approximately 440 hours. After the pandemic, this program transitioned to virtual modality. For the remaining 12 weeks of the school year, there was one student educator in charge of this program who dedicated approximately 1 hour a week to this program, making the annual total for both combined 452 hours.
