1st Campaign 

Name of the campaign:
No Straw November

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:
No Straw November was a partnered program on campus in November 2017 and 2018. CSUMB joined forces with Jr. Ocean Guardians to promote, bring awareness, and reduce the number of plastic straws used by CSUMB students. Paper straws were offered instead of plastic at our Dining Commons, Otter Express, Starbucks, and Library Cafe during this time. This is now permanent practice. Plastic Free November was also promoted in 2019, with a Dr. Suess theme and single use plastics collected from offices throughout the campus and put on display in the library. The materials will then be sent to Arrowhead with a letter asking them to stop sending single use plastic cups.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
Positive impacts included less single use plastic in our campus community and instilling positive behavior changes to reduce the use of single use plastic straws for the rest of the year, not just November. Now all straws are eliminated or compostable.

Waste Watchers

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged (2nd campaign):
Waste Watchers is an initiative created by the Sustainability Office to support proper waste sorting habits on campus. CSUMB Sustainability Student Assistants work to correct waste mistakes and educate students on how to correctly sort their waste in the future. This is done through active participation of Student Assistants working around campus near waste receptacles and educating the campus community on waste sorting in the present moment

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
The education of students of their waste and the monitering the actual waste has reduced the amount of wrongly sorted waste. Eduacting and getting the study body familiar with the three bin system will increase the number or correctly sorted waste which will reduce the amount of waste we as a campus are sending to the landfill.
