"Overview of Charge The mission of the committee is to promote sustainability throughout CSUMB. The Committee will build awareness, understanding, and a culture of sustainability on campus. The Committee will foster dialogue, support the advancement of goals identified in the Climate Action Plan, assist with reporting requirements and provide a venue for campus organizations, units and groups to work collaboratively to advance sustainability principles throughout campus. The Committee will review campus practices that may prohibit or hinder progress on achieving sustainability goals and will provide recommendations for improvements. In addition to these broad responsibilities, the committee will also identify one-year actions on an annual basis. One-Year Actions (July 2015 – June 2016) 1. Identify sustainability priority areas and initiate campus action and program development. 2. Advise and provide recommendations on the development of the Master Plan Update 3. Develop a campus-wide definition of sustainability

The Sustainability Office currently includes one full time staff member and 5 part-time student employees. It is housed within Campus Planning and Development and works with stakeholders throughout campus to advance the vision of creating a sustainable campus while educating and engaging students.

The campus hired its first sustainability director in May 2015. The hiring of this position led to the creation of the President's Sustainability Committee a waste task force a water task force, development of the first sustainability newsletter and a presence at multiple tabling events. Sustainability is also now incorporated into New Employee Orientation for the first time.
