Secure bicycle parking provided throughout central campus. Bicycle lockers are accessible to all campus community members, with rentals facilitated through a campus housing association. Shower facilities are provided at two locations on campus: (1) the primary exercise facility known as the Otter Sports Center on the west side of campus and (2) the recently developed Business and Information Technology academic building in the campus core. Day use lockers are currently available at the Otter Sports Center.

Does the institution provide short-term bicycle parking for all occupied buildings and makes long-term bicycle storage available for students who live on-site (if applicable)?:

More than 326 racks provide parking capacity for over 1118 bikes. The majority of these racks are produced by Park-a-Bike to provide 3-point contact for the greatest degree of security for the campus community and visitors. More than 22 bike lockers are located throughout the campus core near residential halls to provide long-term bike parking for campus residents. A Bike Bunker is also located adjacent to the Otter Cycle Center and provides 22 bike parking spaces in a limited-access facility for campus commuters.

The campus prioritizes bicycle and pedestrians traffic throughout the campus core, and maintains a complex network of facilities both along major roads and independent of vehicular networks. Having inherited a former military base on which to develop a university, CSUMB has made progressive and ongoing efforts to reduce conflicts between motor vehicles and vulnerable road users. Community members benefit from more than 5 miles of bike paths, lanes and Bicycle Boulevards, as well as a developing network of well-lit, accessible walking paths. The closure of three major thoroughfares through campus to private cars has also had a positive impact on individuals' bicycle and pedestrian experience.

The CSUMB Otter Cycle Center is a student-run program providing students access to multi-geared road and mountain bikes on a semester loan basis. More than 20 bikes are currently available, with participation levels at or near 100% every semester.

Does the institution offer free or reduced price transit passes and/or operate a free campus shuttle for commuters?:

A brief description of the mass transit programs:

A UPass program is accessible to all campus community members with a valid OtterID, and allows users to ride every Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) route for zero cost at boarding. Monterey-Salinas Transit operates eight transit routes through or directly along the periphery of CSUMB during the academic term. Service frequencies during school hours range from every 20-minutes to every 60-minutes. A campus shuttle (Line 26) is operated at high frequencies between the university's east and main campuses. Annual 2015-16 CSUMB ridership on MST totaled more than 280,000 passengers.

The university participates in the regional transportation agency's Guaranteed Ride Home program, which offers a reimbursement of up to $60 to program participants on the day of an unexpected emergency. Those commuting by transit, bicycle, carpool, vanpool or by foot at least one day a week are eligible to participate.

A rideshare program is currently in development. Our goal is to increase carpool mode share by providing an easy-to-use smartphone app which pairs users headed in the same direction. A vanpool program is also being reviewed as a secondary consideration of this process.

4 Zipcars are currently available in 2 separate locations. The program offers increased mobility to campus community members throughout the region and wherever Zipcar does business.

Two Level 2 EV charging stations are available to campurs residents, commuters and visitors in the Campus Core, with 4 parking spaces designated EV charging only.

There are 516 on-campus units (66 for sale and 450 rental) are available through the CSUMB Employee Housing, Inc. program on East Campus.

A TRIPwise brochure is distributed annually to inform campus community members of their mobility options. Guide includes information on every sustainable transportation program on campus, and directs users on where to find learn more about bicycling, transit, carpooling, walking and more.

Both the rideshare and zipcar programs are in development with a planned launch in the fall.
