Cal State LA's Energy and Sustainability Manager was hired in April 2015 under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Facilities, Planning, Design and Construction. Since then, Cal State LA reduced water consumption by 31% by replacing bathroom appliances with high efficiency toilets and urinals, which is estimated to save over 10 million gallons of water annually. In November 2015, Cal State LA joined more than 200 U.S. colleges and universities in signing the White House American Campuses Act on Climate Pledge, thereby agreeing "to accelerate the transition to low-carbon energy while enhancing sustainable and resilient practices across our campus." Cal State LA has also recently established a Campus Sustainability Committee and is in the process of establishing a campus Zero Waste Plan.

Members will be responsible for serving on one (1) of the CSC subcommittees corresponding to the categories listed under the Operations section of the STARS reporting framework: 1) Air & Climate, 2) Energy & Buildings, 3) Purchasing, Dining Services & Grounds, 4) Transportation, 5) Waste Management, and 6) Water Conservation.
Subcommittees will work to support the respective sections of the Climate Action Plan, Resilience Assessments, STARS reporting, and the development of 1-year tactical plans at the beginning of the academic year with specific project goals and targets.
