A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) CAPS is a consultation service to help faculty, staff, and students meet the personal challenges associated with identifying and accomplishing academic, career, and life goals. Services include short-term counseling for individuals, group counseling, career development counseling, referral services, psychoeducational workshops, and crisis intervention. These services are provided by mental health professionals and advanced psychology interns under the supervision of licensed psychologists. Project OCEAN Project OCEAN (On-Campus Emergency Assistance Network) is a peer education program in the CAPS department that aims to increase knowledge of issues related to mental health though training, workshops, campus events, and peer-to-peer programs. The Faculty & Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) This is a free, confidential resource to help employees resolve personal, family, or work-related problems before they disrupt daily life. FSAP staff help employees explore problem areas that affect their well-being such as crisis resolution, emotional concerns (depression, anxiety), work-related concerns, family/marital/partner concerns, and alcohol and drug abuse by providing problem assessment, short-term counseling, and needed referral services. Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC) The SRWC Fitness program strives to increase members’ physical, mental, and social wellness by offering free fitness assessments, personal training, a variety of free group exercise classes, instruction-based classes, and exercise testing. Access to the Center is included in students’ tuition and university employees are offered special membership prices at the SRWC and the Lifefit Center on campus. LifeFit Center The LifeFit Center provides multidisciplinary and innovative health, fitness, and social programs to promote a lifelong commitment to wellness. It also provides intergenerational relationships between students and community members by allowing students to gain experience by training CSULB faculty, staff, and community members. USU Beach Balance This program was created in 2019 to provide faculty, staff, and students with health and wellness services to enhance the quality of life through mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Services include body massage chairs, blood pressure testing, body weight scales, and BMI testing, meditation, hammocks, art therapy, and more. Beach Balance is constantly expanding and creating new special events such as Meal Prep 101, Meditation Special, Plant a Plant, DIY Wellness Hour, Dog Therapy, and Aromatherapy. Student Emergency Intervention and Wellness Program This comprehensive program identifies and serves at-risk students, including displaced students, food-insecure students, and any students experiencing an emergency or crisis. Club Sports & Recreation The Department of Clubs Sports and Recreation tries to improve the quality of life for CSULB faculty, staff, and students by providing recreational and competitive clubs, fitness classes, and open recreational programs. These classes and clubs include club soccer, Sailing Club, Salsa Club, Gaming Club, Deep Water Aerobics, Pilates, and Hatha Yoga. Student Health Services (SHS) Student Health Services supports academic excellence by promoting physical and mental well-being, through affordable quality health services and education. Utilizing a team of dedicated professionals, SHS provides sensitive, confidential healthcare services to a diverse campus community. Office of Wellness & Health Promotion The Office of Wellness & Health Promotion provides health education and support to students to facilitate the ongoing development of healthy lifestyles. You@CSULB This confidential platform is free for all CSULB students and employees. The web-based app features resources designed to support mental and physical health, as well as assist campus community members in finding balance and event connecting with new friends. Campus Assessment, Response & Evaluation for Students (CARES) The purpose of the CARES Team is to provide a centralized structure for the campus community in support of students. We provide early intervention and crisis mitigation for students through collaboration with campus departments, faculty, and staff. In collaboration with students, the CARES Team will review all information available on the student’s behavior and background, to develop an individual action plan and provide ongoing case management support. PT @ THE BEACH A University faculty practice that educates, consults, and provides expert physical therapy evaluation and treatment of movement dysfunction to optimize health, wellness, function, and quality of life for our campus and local community. Beach Crisis Text Line From anywhere in the United States, anytime we can reach a confidential counselor for support. LifeMatters LifeMatters is a no-cost, confidential service available to faculty and staff, their immediate family members, and those residing in their households.
